But neither DVLA nor DVSA (which used to be called VOSA ...) is responsible for enforcing the law, that is the job of the police and the courts.

If they ever start routinely sending warning letters, let's hope the grammar is better. And that they switch off the CapsLock!

From my perceived knowledge of US Govt Depts, I equated their DMV to our Licence issuers.
My friend received a letter from the US Embassy banning him for life from driving in California. No Department listed, just signed by the Assistant to the Ambassador.

I always thought it was extremely hard to lose your driving license in the USA, to the point where you'd have to do something so bad you'd probably be prosecuted for something more serious anyway - like murder?

Something to do with a car being pretty much a requirement if you want to take part in most of American society, so removing that has more consequence than it does in places like the UK
