Hi everyone. My car has recently broken down. I was informed that I will need a new engine. I received a quote for an engine reconditioning for £1745. The garage took my car and after some tome they came back to me with a new quote for £3200. This being too high I asked them not to carry out the works. They are now telling me to pay £700 for the stripping of the engine and diagnostics, plus the recovery.
Their breakdown as follows:
Engine removal 5hrs
Engine stripping 3hrs
Diagnostics 2hrs
This at £50 an hour comes at £500 plus £200 for the recovery.

Would this be a reasonable price?

This sounds very much like the "reconditioned-engines.co.uk aka brentsouth trading aka heathrow engines" scam. Paying them is no guarantee that you will get what's left of your car back.
