My brother recently offered a few bits to the family from his flat, to save them from the bin - some framed art-y pictures, a mirror and a table, the latter of which was a gift

Nothing was wrong with any of them and they were all less than 18 months old, he just got bored of them

Is this common among the (not so anymore) younger generation (we are millennials)?

I try to keep stuff till it's completely unusable, especially if it's been purchased for me, but maybe I'm in the minority?

A friend of mine goes round the charity shops around here. Around a week ago, he found a year old 42" TV for £20 because they could not test it. Took it home and looked it up on the internet. Still on sale for £299 in some shops. The joy of living in an area where everybody must have the latest of everything.

I know what you mean about your area. I don't know whether you ever watched the old Top Gear episode where they mock the people of Surrey by buying some new products and taking them straight to the tip but a relative lived very close, that was her local, and it really did seem like people did that there!

I think Top Gear was one of the most entertaining programmes on TV. While I was laid up after my cancer op, I watched them again on catch-up.

During my time in Japan, I observed that certain households placed electronics outside their homes. Upon inquiring with my boss, I learned that these electronics were intended for collection by garbage collectors, with the households bearing the disposal costs. Surprisingly, these items were not defective; individuals simply acquired new replacements and either lacked the desire to retain the old ones or faced space constraints.
