Hello, I have a question, I think I made a mistake today. While driving along York St in Belfast (this is an intersection with a traffic light camera) ,the amber light came on, I was behind the stop line but in front of the yellow box ,still at a pedestrian crossing , traffic moved very slow and in stress, instead of driving over intersection , I stopped at a pedestrian crossing to wait for the green light
I am stressed about this situation because I was driving a company van
Can I get a fine for this?
Whether they offer a Red Light Safety Awareness Course instead of points for such an offense ?
@MagicGentlemanThe offence is committed if any part of your vehicle crosses the line on red. If it was entirely over the line, or if you didn't move while red, then you're OK.
If not, then yes: 3 points and a fine or fixed penalty.
BTW I may be wrong, but I don't think they operate courses in NI.
@Beelzebub Thanks mate , you're helpful as usual.I will know in next two weeks , maybe even earlier I’m not happy with that but I can’t do anything. Now i think I should drive just straight through, other side some part of me told me was good decision to stop when lights changed for amber

No need to thank me three times!
"some part of me told me was good decision to stop when lights changed for amber"- that part was right, amber means the same as red, unless the car is " so close to the stop line that it cannot safely be stopped without proceeding beyond the stop line".
