Maximum motorcycle width
-
Hello all, I’m planning a motorcycle trip through Spain and on to Portugal. I can carry my golf clubs legally in the UK but I’m trying to find out what is the law regarding maximum width of a motorcycle load in Spain and Portugal. Any answers please?

AFAIK there is no law about motorbike width. The main thing would be whether it is safe and not a danger to other road users.
Section 40a Road Traffic Act 1988, using a motor vehicle in a dangerous condition. The offence covers carrying any load where “the weight, position or distribution of its load, or the manner in which is secured is such that the use of the motor vehicle or trailer involves a danger or injury to any person.”
I imagine that the rules in other European countries are similar.
EDIT: There is a rule about motorcycles towing trailers that states they must not be more than one metre wide, so that may be relevant.Last edited by Santa; 26-03-24 at 21:56.

I'm also planning a motorcycle trip to Portugal next year and am looking at traffic laws similar to the ones provided here for Spain. I found this helpful resource: https://www.euraxess.pt/portugal/inf...iving-portugal. For those who have made a similar trip, I was hoping you might have found other helpful links I can familiarize myself with before the trip. I also found a great article, not directly related to motorcycling, that highlights Portugal's efficient public transport system: https://gowithguide.com/blog/tourism...ate-guide-5600. I might use public transport to explore Lisbon and Porto for the first couple of days before renting my motorcycle.
