Garage issues

Garage towed our car to their garage. After inspection informed us we needed a new engine. Picked one on ebay and recommended we buy it. Didn't do any work for one month after which time the warranty had lapsed. Informed us 4 months later that the engine wasn't any good. During these 4 months demanded £1500 off us, stating he would refuse to do any more work unless we paid him. Car has been left outside the whole of winter, and now has flat tyres. Now he is saying the car cannot be fixed and we need to remove it from our property at our own cost. Please advise.

If the fault was registered within the original warranty time, the repair is the warranty issuer's responsibility. Sounds time to consult a solicitor and any Societies/Associations the garage belongs to.

@Rolebama The fault wasn't registered within the warranty period. The mechanic has only just said the engine isn't any good after 4 months! He has taken 4 months to establish that. I don't think he is a member of the Motor Ombudsman. Thanks.

@Zsa sorry, meant to say 'remove from his property, not ours'.
We bought an engine to replace the old one. Mechanic installed the new engine plus a brand new clutch which he told us we needed. Then didn't really do a great deal, he has had the car for 4 months! He then demanded£1500 off us saying he would not try to get the engine working until we paid him the £1500. Now 6 weeks later he is saying the engine isn't any good, that he is going to put the car back together, put the old engine in the boot of our car and demanding we move it from his garage. We have paid him £1500 , plus £1000 for the engine, which we bought elsewhere on his recommendation, and now have a car which doesn't work, ie, the engine doesn't work, has 4 flat tyres as has been sat outside his garage for 4 months. Surely this cannot be right?
