After reading a post on another thread I decided to ask this ...

What do you think is the perfect car, for everything?

Is there even one?

Has to cover:

- Reliability
- Practicality/space
- Comfort
- Economy
- Performance/fun
- Affordability
- Probably plenty of other things I have neglected to mention.

A friend of the family has a Skoda Fabia estate (basically a VW Polo estate) and I think it is pretty spot on. It's an estate so covers practicality, it's narrow - good for their local Norfolk single tracks, does 55mpg, decent performance, comfortable, cheap and easy to get parts for.

I think the Range Rover is pretty close to covering every requirement but it obviously fails on being affordable.

My Mini JCW does everything except carry passengers/stuff and go off road, neither of which I need, so it's perfect for me but probably not for most...

Can anyone think of anything else?

As you say, there's no such thing as the perfect car, and performance will soon be a thing of the past, that should cut the options down a fair bit.

For me it's my extended cab pickup truck. The fuel economy could be better, but it seats 4, is reliable (Chevrolet), with the pickup bed you can haul just about anything, and it's cheap to insure.

I decided years ago that my car would be as economical as practicable combined with comfort. For the past 40+yrs I have had a trailer of some sort in the garage, and I would not contemplate buying a car which could not have a tow-bar fitted.

@NMNeil I can see where you are coming from. Always thought a pickup would be ideal in a country where fuel economy doesn't matter and a large car isn't a hindrance!

Mention pickups and you immediately think of the ones that are huge.
My Chevy Colorado has a total length of 5.4 meters and it's 1.8 meters wide.
A BMW 3 series is 4.7 meters long and the same 1.8 meters wide.

I'm pretty confident the perfect car could never exist (yes I've been reading that Zen book we talked about earlier 🤣) but of all the cars I've owned/leased I would say a Ford Mondeo. Which of course has all the 'Mondeo Man' reputation which I guess means it was seen as boring, but I loved it, and it ticked all those boxes.
