Hi there,

I thought I had a slow puncture on an almost brand new tyre and put tyre weld in to get me home as my car doesn’t have a spare or space saver.

turns out I have a small rim crack on my alloy which I am getting repaired. The tyre garage says I need a new tyre regardless as I have put tyre weld in even thought the tyre is both new and undamaged.

is this actually the case as it doesn’t make sense ?

It's true that some of the emergency puncture repair kits are a problem, but Holts claims that a punctured tyre can be repaired normally after using TyreWeld.

In your case, the tyre does not need a repair, so there is no reason to scrap it.

@LeetAIUI it's possible to repair a tyre where Tyreweld or similar gunge has been used, but most repairers won't do it because the stuff is so difficult and/or unpleasant to remove.

Most of these goo repairs are water soluble and should wash out fairly easily. In any case, you don’t need the tyre to be repaired so it’s not as if you will have trouble with the mushroom patch sticking so just have the rim repaired and refit the tyre.
