I had a discussion with an avid combustion engine driver. He claimed that modern car exhaust emissions are
1. Impossible to commit suicide through inhalation.
2. Non-toxic so you can inhale them?
I find the 2nd one particularly hard to believe. Strangely he would not demonstrate it to me by inhaling his own car exhaust...🤔
Please confirm the scientific basis for an answer.

Limits are different for petrol and diesel engines:

Euro 6 Diesel Emissions Standards (grams per kilometre):

Carbon Monoxide - 0.50
Nitrous Oxide - 0.080
Particulate matter 0.005

Euro 6 Petrol Emissions Standards (grams per kilometre):

Carbon Monoxide - 1.0
Nitrous Oxide - 0.060
Particulate matter 0.005

I don't know enough to be sure, but while a few breaths might not kill you, it wouldn't do you any good.
