Why do some of my posts need approving by a moderator - it’s not like I’ve just signed up and am about to flood the site spam!

Indeed your posts should not need pre-approving!
I think what's happening here today is that an anti-spam mechanism has kicked in caused by several posts from one account in quick succession.
I've flagged this with our tech team to have a look though. 🙂
