What made me happy today
-
Got home in the early hours and found my usual parking slot available. The neighbourhood cats formed a great welcoming committee, albeit driven by cupboard love, but it was just great to be home after a total nightmare of a day.

I saw this tweet whilst doom scrolling and it brought a smile to my face... I hope you enjoy it too. 😀

Went to visit my daughters yesterday. The oldest one took us to Eaton Socon. There is a Hotel Chocolat retail outlet there with a cafe. Their hot chocolate is without doubt the best I have ever tasted. Guess who is planning a return visit.

Thanks for that, I didn't know. I think it's wonderful the way some of our place names are pronounced.

Got my internet back (again). Also found an email from Monday confirming part of the compensation has been put in my account. Looking forward to my next payment for this month's.
Keeping fingers crossed that it is fixed for good now. -
I didn’t know that about Eaton Socon
If you want to be really puzzled, try working out how some of the Norfolk towns are pronounced -
I’m happy today because I have an old stockbroking account with Hargreaves Lansdown that I used to fool around with as a teenager thinking I was going to make my millions without doing much
I haven’t used it for over 10 years but it has several holdings that haven’t quite gone “bust” but are worth less than the £11.99 dealing fee, so I’d effectively be paying to dispose of them
For that reason I’ve just let the account sit there unused, but got an email from HL offering up to £100 in free trades, so made use of it and tidied my account up, which I can then close and spend the money on a bottle of single malt -
I remember going to Lotus factory near Wymondham, which is pronounced as Windham some years ago. It was only because there was a brown sign for Lotus on the main road that the penny dropped. There is also a Mousehole near Norwich, pronounced Moozle.

That was where I did a driving experience thing a while back in an Elise
That was one hell of a car, I'd say it drove as well as a "luxury" car costing more than twice its £30,000 price tag, it just did without any of the luxuries you tend to get in a posh car, including air con and a radio which were optional extras -
I was there for work, collecting an Elise and delivering it to Scotland. Because I had to wait, I was offered a go around their track in an Elise. Great fun, except for the getting in and out.

My wife and I decided to take advantage of the good weather today and go for a meal at The Old Orchard in Harefield. It has a magnificent view across the surrounding countryside, which has been marred over the past couple of years because of HS2 work.
Today, however, the view was back, with just a few bits of the very long viaduct visible through the trees.
All-in-all a good meal, efficient and friendly staff and a view tp finish it off whilst drinking Irish coffees in the sun.
This picture of the view was taken before HS2 work begun, and it is pretty much as it is now. -
Woke up to rain 😀
Not only because it's the first rain in about 5 months but it's going to help Ruidoso which is only about 70 miles from my place.

My wife came back from a short 5-day vacation with her dad and sister. The dogs and I were all over her once she came inside the door.

I used to drink, not to the point of having a problem (though they all say that), but too much if you worked out the units
I cut down and now go for quality over quantity, but have also been spending some of the money saved on tickets for raffle competitions where you can win a decent bottle of plonk worth from hundreds into thousands
Last week I secured a nice bottle worth just under £300! 😋
It felt weird pouring a dram when it arrived, thinking there's about 20 quid in the glass 😳 -
@Mark07 It was lovely!
I've had a couple of whiskies/brandies worth ~£150 (I got them on offer for about £100) and can't help that with the £300 this one cost I'd buy two of the former, but that's not meant to be the point!
You can buy 2 Porsche Boxsters for the price of a 911 but why would you do that? 😆 -
The schools are back now in Scotland (yay!). I had a blissful couple of hours away from work and kids this afternoon. First time in 6 weeks. That made me truly happy 😃

I found this story in the paper today, and it made me happy to know that some people still have a community spirit, and will find ways to offset corporate bloody-mindedness.
