Belated Xmes Greeting
-
It was my desire to wish everyon on, and involved with, the Forum, a Merry Xmas. Unfortunately, I lost my Internet Xmas Eve because of a problem with the green phone connection box at the end of the road. So - I hope you all had a Good Xmas, and I wish you all a Happy New Year now in case it goes again. (Fingers crossed.)

A merry belated Xmas to you too @Rolebama 😃
Hmmm, Xmas without the internet.... must have felt like going back in time. How did you cope?! Did the board games get dusted off?Welcome to the RAC Community! Start here 😀
You can say hi and introduce yourself too 👋
What should you do after a collision? 🤔

Nothing like a good board game and an abundance of alcohol.
"No, Miss Scarlet, you can't buy Fenchurch Street Station unless you first get it into a 'check' position."
Great fun had by some. -
The truncated quote above was what came up on my screen before I opened the thread. My imagination instantly added possible continuations:
unless you first get...into those fish-net stockings and suspender belt I bought you for Christmas.
unless you first get... me my pills and bedtime cocoa.
Maybe you can come up with some suggestions? -

It doesn't feel like a whole year since the forum was revived. 😮
I hope everyone has a great Christmas / festive period ... 😀 -

Much easier now since I installed an AI. She (I call her Doris for [reasons]) has optimised all my lists of deserving children and plotted the most economical route. This, coupled with my new electric, fully autonomous sleigh will make the job a doddle.
Rudolph and the rest of the reindeer have been given a well-earned retirement in Lapland. No problems with the elves this year either as we subbed all the toy-making out to a Russian factory. They have promised delivery next week.
Merry Christmas everyone 😀Last edited by Santa; 12-12-23 at 17:52.

@Marc
In fairness, last Christmas Eve was a complete disaster, I won't go into detail but I will just say that existing tensions and certain peoples intolerance to alcohol do not mix. It meant Christmas Day was going to be written off and it turned out to be one of the best Christmas Days, because there were no expectations and so there was no pressure! 😀 -

Ha ... don't really want to share, but, to settle any curiosity I will say it wasn't even entertaining Eastenders type bust up, just pitiful and rather sad watching someone with pre-existing issues lose what little restraint they had, and the effect of that on other family members. 🙁
On a better note ... I have got some early presents. The parcel turned up when I was there and the contents were visible so I was allowed to have them now. Will try to attach a pic. 😊 -
2 books on advanced driving 😛
They are written in a very entertaining style - not nerdy or dry like you might imagine -
Interesting @Drivingforfun Is there anything you'll do differently next time you go for a drive, based on your reading? -
Have only had a flick through so far @Marc however if the books are anything like his YouTube videos I will learn a lot and hopefully lose some bad habits!

We got it sussed many many years ago.
Christmas morning the wife tells me what I bought her for Christmas and I tell her what she bought me.
Never disappointed.
As for celebrating I have about 20 gallons of home brew ready and waiting along with the White Widow harvest. 😎 -
We're doing this for the first time this year @NMNeil and we've already agreed it's a lot less stressful! Wish we'd started this ages ago. -
In the past she bought me a chainsaw, a new distributor for my tractor and some more batteries for our solar system. This Christmas she bought me a new 1911.😍 -
I was given a snow shovel some years ago. Now that I have one, I've never needed to use it. I carry it constantly as a good luck charm.

Have to admit I am on a few forums shared with people in the US and whenever I hear of life over there I feel jealous.
I love muscle cars, cheap fuel, firearms (sorry), lots of room, not living on your neighbours doorstep, the carefree attitude, etc.....
I am aware "the grass is not always greener". Would you mind telling us about some of the terrible things about the US, just to dispel my jealousy? 😀 -
When I first moved to LA from London in 96 I couldn't believe how cheap petrol was, how freely the roads were moving and how clean the air was.
Within 6 months I was just like everyone else by bitching and moaning about the cost of petrol, the traffic jams and the terrible air pollution.
You still have to work for a living with bosses who will try and work you to death. Nothing new there.
You still have to pay taxes on just about everything, but here it's worse as you have State tax, County tax and City tax. It all adds up real fast
You have to pay Federal and State taxes on your wages, and States get to set their own tax rates. I lived in Nevada for 7 years which has no income tax, but you still get to pay Federal income tax.
It has good sides and bad sides, but the same can be said for any country I suppose.
But I have no desire to return to London; ever. -
Very true words @NMNeil and thanks for the pointers. 😉
I hear people in the UK who are used to public sector complain about being worked hard when they switch to private sector. It seems public service is less well paid but for people who want "cushty" - private sector for people who want more money but be worked to the bone. I imagine that a lot more in the US is private rather than public so explains the attitude of employers.
I have relatives who moved to the US and was told you need a license for EVERYTHING in the US - except to own a gun.🤣 Apparently there is no state pension but you get state-funded healthcare at retirement age, which as a 65 year old is worth as much as a state pension?
Hope you and everyone else here has a merry Christmas . -
Buying a gun isn't as easy as everyone believes.
Go to the local gun store.
https://www.larrysgunshop.com/
Pick out my new gun, in this case it was my Christmas present of a 1911, fill out the ATF form and wait while it's processed by the Feds, it only takes a few minutes for verification, then walk out with my purchase.
