Provisional with 6 points?

  • badger's Avatar
hi, ok i did something silly a while ago and have been given 6 points

i decided to pass my test and am ready to take the test.

However the law says that as a new driver for the first 2 yrs you cannot get 6 points including points from before you passed or your license will be revoked
Then you must reapply for a provisional and retake the tests
It doesnt give a timescale for reapplying

My question is, if i take my test am i going to lose my license at the same time as i get it?
If so do i then have to wait the 2 yrs or 3 yrs and then retake my test?

Im a little confused and my theory is in one week.

    Please help

HI. i hope you get this...i need help ASAP.

tonight i just got 3 points for going through a red light (i didnt even know id done it) but i already had 3 points....so now i have 6.

ive had my full licsence for 10 months.

i keep seeing eveywhere that if oyu have 6 you have it taken off oyu and have to resit...i have 6!

but i originally thought this would happen after the guy said to me (the frist time) to be carful from now on....so i asked the poilce lady tonight and she said...no if you get anymoreit gets taken off oyu..and gave me th fine.

BUT everywhere on the internet it says if i HVAE 6 its taken off me...surely the police woman didnt get it wrong....she woulda seen my date of birth (18) and known i hadnt been driving for 3 years....

HELP...where do you find this info....so you have 6 points but your liscence still?

    thanks!xox

Just to clear it up, you won't lose your licence when you pass your test, but if you get one more point in 2 years, you have to start from scratch.
You don't have to wait, but you do have to re-apply for your provisional, and re-take your theory and practical tests

This applies whether it's 6 points or 12.

Katie, if the driving test was your first proper test (ie you haven't been riding motorbikes for 10 years with a full motorbike licence), I hate to say it but you should lose your licence, as it's 6 or more points in the first 2 years. New Drivers Act has all the info here.

    Hope this has helped
