Help needed with my RAC 5 in 1 jump pack
-
Hi i have had one of these packs for about 18 months. i've used it a couple of time about a year ago and it has since then sat in the back of the car waiting for that day i would need it. Well that day came last Friday and you have guessed it was flat as a pancake. so i took it in doors to charge it and even though the green charging light comes on its still flat after 24 hours on charge. am i looking at spending another £50 on a new one or better off saving my money for a recovery?

Starting a car with a totally flat battery takes a lot of power. The 'slave' not only has to power the starter motor but also overcome the resistance (back EMF) of the dead battery.
When using jump leads from another car, it is best to leave the other engine running and the batteries connected pos to pos and neg to neg for a few minutes before using the starter. -
My point is that I have doubts about whether a device like this would start a car with a totally flat battery, even if it was 100%. I would buy a 'smart' charger for the car instead.

Did you charge the unit every few weeks to keep it topped up? You usually can't leave it for a long while without a chare or the battery won't work which sounds like what has happened here.

@davezim You have to keep these things charged all the time. Every two weeks, give them a new charge top up.
However, this is my second RAC charger, and it's not charging up?
It's virtually new and isn't working?
