My daughter bought a car off secondhand car dealer.

The car was displayed on his forecourt with his advert in the windscreen. Now he is claiming he was selling it for a friend, therefore no guarantee is offered. The car has 12 months MOT, but another garage is saying that due to rust on the brake disks it shouldn't have passed. The dealer is now ignoring my calls and text messages. Does anyone have any ideas on how to proceed?

Thank you wagolynn, we can't talk directly with trading standards as all calls are fielded by CA, who couldn't advise me. Mainly because I don't think the young person I spoke to had any idea what I was talking about and only suggested I keep trying to speak to someone who is ignoring my calls.

Well basically, the dealer cannot do this, you can return the car within 30 days for a refund, or they must fix it.
See https://www.theaa.com/car-buying/legal-rights
You can contact trading standards on the internet and CAB.
The dealer may have been able to get away with it if the car was advertised as being sold on behalf of a friend, and you agreed to purchase without any warranty but I am certain on this.
Good Luck -
The CAB is your first port of call in these cases. https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/ab...us/contact-us/
