Hi and welcome to the RAC Community!

To help keep this a positive and supportive space, we ask that all members of the RAC Forum treat each other with respect and courtesy.

In short, treat others how you would like to be treated. 😉

The quick version of our community house rules:

Our community managers and moderators are here to support the space and may step in where needed to address inappropriate behaviour, remove unacceptable content, or take further action if rules are broken.

    This includes:

    - Discrimination
    - Threatening behaviour
    - Offensive behaviour
    - Spam
    - Swearing
    - Personal details/images (e.g. phone numbers, addresses, payment info)
    - Advertising
    - Scams
    - Graphic content

We may update these guidelines from time to time, so it’s worth checking back every now and then.

    Important information regarding complaints:

The RAC Forum is here to encourage helpful discussion, share driving and motoring insight, and connect members. It isn’t the right place for complaints about RAC membership or services.

If you do need to make a complaint, please follow the process on our Complaints page, where the right teams can support you directly.

To help keep the Forum focused and useful for everyone, posts about membership or service complaints won’t be approved and will be redirected.

Thank you for helping us keep this a respectful and welcoming space.

The longer version of our community house rules

    No personal info

The forum can be viewed publicly. Your username is visible, but your real name and email are only seen by the Community Team.

For your safety, please don’t share personal details such as phone numbers, addresses, email addresses, private messages, sensitive customer service content, IP addresses, driver’s licence, car registration or similar information.

If you spot personal information, please report it using the “Report post” button.
Please also avoid sharing RAC staff personal details or full names without permission.

    Search first

Before posting, try using the search function—you might find your answer in an existing thread.

If not, feel free to ask a question. Asking is just as valuable as answering!

    Respect each other

Everyone—new members and regulars alike—has the right to share their views and ask questions.

    • Please avoid judging or belittling others. Be constructive, helpful and respectful.
    • No unlawful, abusive, defamatory or harmful content.
    • No spam or repeated posts.
    • Please avoid using all caps, as it can come across as shouting.
    • No public naming and shaming.
    • Please treat community staff with the same respect.
These guidelines also apply to private messages.

    Pointless posts
Try to keep replies helpful, relevant and in line with the discussion.

    Community self-moderating
If you see something that doesn’t feel right, you can report it using the “Report post” link. There’s no need to reply once you’ve reported it—the community team will take a look.

    Stay on topic
Keeping discussions on topic helps everyone. If you’d like to explore something different, feel free to start a new thread.

    Advertising
Please don’t use the forum to advertise or promote goods, services, websites or other communities.
Surveys or questionnaires should only be shared with permission.

    Impersonation
Please don’t impersonate RAC staff or other members.

    Usernames

Usernames should be appropriate and respectful. Offensive, defamatory or promotional names may lead to suspension.
Please also avoid using the RAC name or usernames that target other companies.

    Avatars
Please use appropriate images for your avatar.

    Disputes
If there’s ever any uncertainty, the community management team will make the final decision. If needed, you can ask for something to be reviewed by a manager.

    Content
Most content is created by members of the public and reflects their views, not RAC’s. We’re not responsible for third-party content or links.

By posting, you grant RAC a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence to use your content.

    Best Answers

You’re welcome to suggest that a reply be marked as a best answer—but not your own.

Why can I post in this thread but not any other? Why, as an existing forum member, am I still waiting after 4 days for my posts to be checked by a moderator? What’s going on?

Was wondering if you’d be back Motman. Sorry to see you are having problems...could try posting on this thread once more as I believe I read somewhere that new posters are restricted till they make 3 posts and we’ve all had our post count reset to 0.

I've made at least half a dozen posts since finding the site up and running - still waiting for them to be approved by a moderator! There doesn’t seem to be any way to contact them. You couldn’t send a pm to M.Renk for me could you? 🤞

    Morning all,

Apologies for the delay in responding, we noticed that when we restored the forum back on the new site the same spamming issues reappeared from the old forum, we've had to implement a workaround but it should now all be functioning correctly and preventing all of the spam going through. We have an approval system in place and once 3 posts have been approved you will be able to post freely without needing it.

    Thanks again for your patience!

I joined the forum to highlight a potential consequence of a government announcement today (primarily about banning the sale of Halogen and Fluorescent bulbs) it states there will be a "ban from September on the sale of lighting fixtures with fixed bulbs that can’t be replaced" which I think will implicitly ban the sale of many (most?) new cars if headlamp units need to be replaced rather than individual bulbs.
    Anyone agree/disagree with my interpretation?
Does the RAC want to publicise the implications?
