Brief history - I'm in my fifties. I rode a motorbike when I was in my twenties for a few years before the CBT was ever introduced. I eventually needed to undertake more substantial journeys for work in poor weather so I passed my full Car test in 1992
I have driven cars since then but I'm keen to get back on a bike.
I find the categories confusing but not sure whether my licence actually entitles me to get back on a motorbike, with or without size restrictions, undertaking a CBT or not and with or without L plates.

Would anyone be able to kindly advise ? Many thanks in anticipation :)

Pretty sure with the date you passed your test, you can only ride a moped on a full licence e.g. no L plates. You’ll be restricted to a (roughly) 125cc with L plates (or any size if restricted output but more agg than its worth) as long as you take the CBT. The CBT lasts two years and if you’ve not passed your test, you have to take another CBT. You’ll need to pass the test to get a full licence. It’s more complicated than it used to be with different classes of full licence. Easiest way is to go along to a motorbike shop, show them your licence and ask them what bikes you can ride with it.

that's good advice, Thanks Motman. I'll pop into a bike shop next week. Doing even further digging,I have a sneaky feeling that it's trikes only (with eyesight correction). I seem to remember losing the motorbike entitlement years ago and not bothering to contest it at the time. I was riding bikes from around 1986 I think until my Dad gave me a car in 1992.
