I've found that paying to import traffic news to TomTom is a waste, as in bad traffic I just drive out of it, and let the TomTom create a new route from where there is no traffic. Has anyone found differently? When I did subscribe, I also had repeated experiences of traffic news not being available so I cancelled the subscription. I'd be interested to know if anyone else finds it worthwhile now?

Haven't used Traffic on Tomtom so far. We do a similar thing as AndrewL and also try and use the TP service on the radio which can be quite helpful.

The nice thing is if you see an overhead sign on the motorway saying a juntion up ahead has delays, you can duck off at an earlier junction and let the satnav do all the heavy lifting to recalculate the route.

Agree - so that appears to be a vote against traffic on a TomTom then? Have you ever tried traffic by mobile phone - RAC offer it by ringing 1740 and it covers motorways, A and B roads - really good if you're in a long queue to know how long it goes on for to know whether to turn round and try another route.

It's 59p a minute for this. If you called this once a week for a couple of minutes each time, you'd pay for a traffic subscription on your satnav. Do you generally get the info you want off this under a minute or two? If so it's probably not a bad option.

The best unit I have seen for traffic has to be the Smartnav which uses Traffic Master. Unfortunately it isnt a portable system.
