megane scenic

My 52 plate megane scenic has gone through three crankshaft sensors in the last 26 miles and is once again refusing to start. I am reluctant to splash out on yet another one that will only last a few miles, is it possible that the ECU is somehow damaging them? I have done a continuity check on the old ones and the fluke shows minimum resistance. Don't think they were genuine parts though, any ideas?

    Sensor

I needed a new Crankshaft sensor for my previous MB and bought off eBay, two sensors later and I decided that buying OE was the way to go even though the OE sensor was more than double the eBay item, kept the car for 3 years after and never had another sensor problem.

I would expect a wiring fault to the sensor if you have tried 2 but its not unheard of for **** quality parts to do this especially on renaults!

On your age of car there were problems with the crank sensors which Renault sorted. The sensors are not the problem and I doubt very much the original one was faulty (but every chance the aftermarket ones were especially of they came from Euro Car Parts). The problem was in the connectors. Simple to check - have someone pull the sensor wiring up a bit to put some tension on it then start the engine. Normally they now start.
So Renault brought out a replacement sensor with a new piece of wiring harness where you cut the original wiring and join the wires with crimp type connectors. You cannot connect the new sensor to the original wiring as the modified connector does not fit. Modified sensor plugs and wiring connectors are blue - the originals are black.
The parts cost around £45 from a Renault dealer.
