Buying a Category D - a good idea?

    Hi there,

i am in negotiations with a seller regardina 54 plate shogun sport.

I can get the car for a reduced price of £8500.

He said that the car has had dents in the wing, but how substational would the damage have to be for it to be rated a category D.

I think the normal retail price for the car is 11500, so I have got a lot off of the retail price,

do you know if there is such a thing as a report that shows the damage to the car or gives you a report for the damage of the car before i buy it?

    thanks guys mightypine

I found this, hope this is of some use....

A Category D Vehicle is a Salvaged Vehicle which is damaged to the extent that the retail cost of repair to the vehicle does not exceed the retail pre-accident value thereof.

Not a good idea at all. For the money you're prepared to spend, get a 'clean' vehicle. Imagine the worst case scenario: You have an accident, your insure company says 'Oh dear sir your car has been written off. We aren't going to pay out. Bye.' Insurance companies do not like paying out on write-offs. If you don't believe me, just try getting some quotes for the car and tell them it's a write off and see how much they quote

Don't bother with it. There are MILLIONS of vehicles out there for sale. Not such a bargain IMO.
